Employee Liberation Act (ZNet) →
Daniel Gross gives a constructive critique of the Employee Free Choice Act, calling for stronger provisions to promote worker self-activity and direct action.  His “Employee Liberation Act” would entail: - “Getting serious about discrimination against workers by putting anti-union discrimination on par with other forms of discrimination,” - “Ending second-class...

The Creation of Ambiguities between Workers and...
In this post, “We are all neoliberals,” Negatron gives some insight into an idea I’ve been trying to understand for awhile: “participatory management,” how workers are co-opted into doing the job of capitalists, thereby blurring the distinction between workers and capitalists (from Maurizio Lazzarato’s essay “Immaterial Labor”).  In the following,...

Jeff Goldblum Shatters Masturbation World Record!... →
The rumors about Jeff Goldblum dying during the same week as MJ were started by someone using FakeAWish.com to start a viral campaign to boost Goldblum’s popularity.  If they wanted to be really effective, they should have gone with the “masturbation world record” story.  Krassner’s article gives insight into the ethics of fake news, and makes me wonder about more serious...

Obama denies neo-imperialism in Africa →
In Obama’s recent speech in Ghana, he said, “the West is not responsible for the destruction of the Zimbabwean economy over the last decade, or wars in which children are enlisted as combatants.” Thereby, he neglects and obscures Western mining companies’ implication in the resource wars that have propped up authoritarian leaders in Zimbabwe.  In “Zimbabwe: imperialism, hypocrisy, and fake...

The story of the monkeys of shitty island...
(from The Wind-up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami): “Do you know the story of the monkeys of the shitty island?” I asked Noboru Wataya. He shook his head, with no sign of interest.  “Never heard of it.” “Somewhere, far, far away, there’s a shitty island.  An island without a name. An island not worth giving a name.  A shitty island with a shitty shape.  On...
