The rumors about Jeff Goldblum dying during the same week as MJ were started by someone using FakeAWish.com to start a viral campaign to boost Goldblum’s popularity.  If they wanted to be really effective, they should have gone with the “masturbation world record” story.  Krassner’s article gives insight into the ethics of fake news, and makes me wonder about more serious possibilites for jamming the culture industry.
