Vélib’ — Paris’s public bicycle rental system — “20,000 bicycles and 1,450 stations, roughly one station every 300 metres throughout the city centre, making Vélib’ the largest system of its kind in the world” (wiki). I’d love to rent one (at only 29 euros/year), but I’d need to get a debit card with a chip in it (through a European bank account or American Express). Instead, I’m trying to find a cheap used bike on craigslist paris. (BTW, NYC is getting a public bike system soon - read David Byrne’s preview.)
