Yeah Yeah Yeahs - “Maps”
I’d never seen this video until i found it on Antville’s top 101 videos of the last decade (which includes Keith’s BPA). It does a brilliant job of highlighting the powerful artistry of the music. It implicitly critiques the pretentiousness of most music videos (and most contemporary music) by continually drawing the viewer’s attention to the staged elements of the video (the crew sitting and watching them play, the shifting filters to change the color of the lights, the set-up debris around the stage, etc.) and by focusing on the band’s performance - subdued yet, like the song, intimating intense desires, swirling beneath the surface of everyday life.
