Obama is partially reducing not only the most blatant corporate corruption of politics, but also some of the mystifying spectacle… Unfortunately, fireworks were my favorite part of spectacle politics. But maybe this is a symbolic first step towards getting rid of all weapons.

Yet in one early sign that the celebrations are likely to be somewhat scaled back, Mr. Obama canceled fireworks on election night in Grant Park in Chicago, telling his advisers that the times were too serious for that type of festivity.”
